...same, kind of. Lark... actually asked me to run away with her, once, before she left with her family. I... couldn't bring myself to, even if I was still miserable at home... at least I knew what was what with that?

Though there's something to traveling to see someone or something, rather than... just running away. Like finding Eclipse on the other side of the world to ruffle his hair.

Sometimes I wish I'd done it, but—

It's funny that... I wouldn't have met Eclipse, if we hadn't met here, and Amaranth—I think... is dead, and she and Persephone lived hundreds of miles away... but they all matter so much to me now.

...and people from places even further, too. You, for one.

[ amused, leaning into him— ]

Did I? To what?

[ oh,,, ]

That’s—funny to hear you say that, actually, because... I found I admired in you the... ability to stick to what your instinct told you was right.

And they keep putting them on Taisho, huh?

[ jokes, ]

I guess it’s all a... matter of balance, sort of. And making each other better.

[ IS IT ]

Mm. It really does.

[ she leans on him as they approach the canals— ]

I... really wish I could go with you, you know.

...you did?

[ she steps into one of the boats, and holds out her arm for him. ]

...honestly in some ways it seems like our homes have a lot of things in common as far as how often they're besieged by bad things.

...no, it's definitely not dumb.

I think it really suits you. It's a name that says you can't keep the bearer down.

Gods, that one was awful. But—"unfurling like a banner or a pair of wings," that's you. They were right.

...gorse is a thorny shrub, I think, actually, so I guess they really were... who we are.
softlyfalling: (and that's enough for today)

Even if they can use who we are against us, I think who we are is... really, really good, actually.

I had a lot of really, really good help.

It still doesn't feel... great, all the time, but—I don't know exactly when I stopped just feeling this gutpunch of self-loathing all the time, and sometimes I don't know if I deserve it, but—

Everything feels so much more... manageable.

Pfft. I’d argue that I’m baseline functional as a human being now, which I think is a little bit below “unstoppable,” but there’s goals, I guess.

And look at you, with a life so full of family that family just can’t stop happening to you. Setting a good example for them.
